Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing all sectors of the Indian economy. This change has led to the imperative of upskilling and reskilling the skills of employees. This paper is purely based on secondary data sources such as NASSCOM, KPMG, Deloitte, McKinsey, World Economic Forum, reports of the Government of India, and reputed academic journals. The study found that by 2025-26, 65-70% of the workforce in India will need to learn new AI-related skills. Only 38% of employees currently have access to AI-based training programs.  The skill gap has been found to be highest (45-60%) in IT, banking, financial services, and manufacturing sectors. Government schemes such as 'National Skill Development Mission 2.0' and 'iGOT Karmayogi' are emphasizing on AI-based learning platforms. The findings clearly suggest that AI-powered training can increase productivity by 25-40%, but the digital divide, limited access to SMEs, and gender-based inequality are serious challenges. The research suggests that the public-private partnership (PPP) model and adaptive AI platforms can secure the future of Indian employees.
