Abstract

This cross-sectional correlational study examined the association between perceived parental involvement and academic achievement among 300 Class IX students in selected secondary schools in Balasore district, Odisha. Students completed the English version of a 25-item Parental Involvement Scale, and the achievement score was taken from the annual examination. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, simple linear regression, and independent-samples t tests were used. The mean parental-involvement score was 73.30 (SD = 12.42), and the mean achievement score was 358.20 (SD = 41.06). Parental involvement was not significantly correlated with achievement, r = .013, two-tailed p = .825, 95% CI [-.101, .126]. The regression model was also nonsignificant, R² < .001, F(1, 298) = 0.049, p = .825. Gender-group comparisons were nonsignificant for parental involvement, t (298) = -1.761, p = .079, and academic achievement, t (298) = -0.976, p = .330. The findings provide no statistical evidence of a linear association or mean gender-group differences in this sample. The cross-sectional, single-district design limits causal interpretation and wider generalisation.
