The digital transformation of India’s financial ecosystem has fundamentally reshaped how consumers manage money and engage in transactions. Over the past decade, technological advancements and government-led initiatives have encouraged a steady transition from cash-based exchanges to digital payment systems. This paper examines the changing consumer behavior toward cashless transactions in the Kachchh region of Gujarat, a unique socio-economic area where urban and rural realities coexist. Drawing on insights from national and international research, the study explores the determinants influencing consumer adaptation to cashless systems—namely convenience, awareness, security, and socio-cultural attitudes—while addressing barriers such as digital illiteracy, infrastructural constraints, and psychological resistance. Findings suggest that although awareness and mobile penetration have increased adoption rates in urban centers like Bhuj and Gandhidham, rural areas continue to depend largely on cash. The paper concludes that achieving inclusive digital transformation in Kachchh requires not only technological improvements but also long-term efforts in financial literacy, trust-building, and local capacity enhancement.
