Abstract

This paper synthesizes a detailed analysis of the evolution of Indian labor law, from its pre-independence origins to contemporary statutory codes, and explores its intricate relationship with Human Resource Management (HRM) practices within industrial enterprises. It outlines key legislation, constitutional safeguards, and the prescribed duties of factory management. Furthermore, the paper investigates the necessity, importance, and common strategies of effective HR policies, emphasizing performance management, compensation, and the unique challenges faced by a sector heavily reliant on a largely unorganized workforce. The central theme is the imperative for organizations to not only comply with the law but also to leverage robust HRM to ensure worker welfare, mitigate conflicts, and drive institutional effectiveness and growth.
